After 3 Disney trips within a year, I promise you I learned my lesson. Third time's a charm, right? Let me share some must have items for a successful Disney trip!
Fanny Pack. I cannot stress this enough. I've used a backpack in Disney before and what a mistake that was! It ended up straining my back and leaving my shoulders sore, which became unbearable by the end of the day. A fanny pack allows you to walk around the park with no added weight on your shoulders... literally and figuratively. The plus side? If it gets annoying, you can opt to sling it over your shoulder, front or back, as a backpack! You can purchase the one I used here.
Portable Charger. Don't be mistaken by how much you'll find yourself on your phone. Yes, there is a lot to do at Disney, but DO NOT underestimate how often you will take your phone out to take pictures! If you're anything like me, you'll find yourself in constant awe as you walk around the park. And let's not forget about the fireworks! Trust me when I say you'll want to document that. All this drains your battery and believe me, you do not want to miss out on a single thing. This portable charger is thin and can be bought here.
Reusable Straw. I'm going to sound horrible but I really hate those paper straws that most places have been using. While I commend Disney for being more environmentally friendly, I actually cannot stand drinking any of my drinks with these straws. Can you say soggy? No thank you! I'm all for saving the environment, and luckily I found the best silicone straw to bring on my trip. Bonus: it comes with a cute carrying case! It's compact and fits perfectly in my fanny pack! Buy here.
Poncho. The weather is always super unpredictable every time I go to Disney. Although the parks sell ponchos when it decides to randomly downpour, I find that they are too bulky and thick for the Florida heat. Before my third trip, I found the perfect poncho to bring along. I will admit, it is a bit pricey but it's been the best investment I made and has since come in handy in other situations! It repels water so it beads right off you, has a hood, is super lightweight, and folds itself into a little carrying pouch! The loop makes it easy to slide onto my fanny pack without taking up space. Tip: Wait until it goes on sale and sign up for an additional 20% off! Purchase here.
Cooling Towel. I truly underestimated how much I would use this while on my trip. Disney, for the most part, is always brutal when it comes to the heat. These towels are easy to activate too. All you have to do is wet it and wring it out. Instant coolness! It's magic, I tell you. They fold up nicely too and don't take up a lot of space in your fanny pack. But let's be honest, the towel will most likely be draped around your neck the whole time. These are sold at the parks but you can buy ahead of time here!
Band-Aids. Every. Single. Time. No matter what shoes I wear, what pair of socks I have on, it never fails that my feet get absolutely destroyed from walking around. If you are familiar with blisters, then you can understand how annoying and irritating it can be to walk around. After all, it's the happiest place on Earth right? No one wants to be in pain and be miserable. NEVER GO TO DISNEY WITHOUT BAND-AIDS! You'll thank me later. You can buy an assortment pack here.
Stainless Steel Water Bottle. I might sound like a broken record but the heat is no joke. Water is a must, and luckily, there are water fountains all throughout the parks. Invest in a stainless steel water bottle since it keeps your drinks cool all day long. I found the perfect bottle that fits in my fanny pack and gets the job done while running around the parks all day! This 12oz water bottle can be bought here.
Sunscreen I think this is obvious and goes without saying. All you need is a travel-sized sunscreen to have on you at all times. I also make sure I have a chapstick with SPF on me as well. DO NOT FORGET TO REAPPLY EVERY FEW HOURS! My favorites are this and that.
Deodorant The amount of sweat is ridiculous. I always like to freshen up when I take bathroom and water breaks. My personal favorite is and travel-sized spray deodorant since it's quick and refreshing. This is usually my go to and can be found at your local store.
Hat I am not a hat person usually, but at Disney I am. I never knew it could help keep you cool from the sun and it also helps with avoiding any sunburn on your face! Go for a material that is moisture-wicking so it helps absorb any sweat. When you're tired of wearing a hat or going on a ride, the velcro adjustable strap can go around the fanny pack! I highly recommend buying this.
I know what you're thinking. ALL THIS can fit into a fanny pack!? Why yes, yes it can. All these items have been a lifesaver during my most recent Disney trip. I had to learn the hard way and through trial and error, but I hope this helps at least one person out there from going through the same issues I went through during my first two trips. Stay tuned because I'll be going to Disney again in July!
